Yesterday evening, at around 8:15 pm, four individuals suffered serious injuries when their car mysteriously burst into flames on Loop 820 near Azle Avenue in Lake Worth, Texas.

Although the authorities have just begun their investigation into what caused the fire, witnesses at the scene of the accident said that there were two explosions and apparently the victims were inside the car at the time of the explosion.   The injuries were serious enough to warrant evacuation by helicopter, as all of the victims experienced burns on 30% to 60% of their bodies, which is quite severe.

There were at least four medical helicopters on-site to transport the victims to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where they will be treated in the burn unit.  The fifth victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.  Traffic was blocked while emergency response personnel attended to the victims.

At this point, it is unclear the cause of the fire, but the Lake Worth Fire Department chief and Fire Marshal were at the scene to investigate.  We will update this story as more information becomes available.
