Fatal Crash Involving 18-wheeler on I-30 near Lake Ray Hubbard

A serious multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-30 left one person dead and closed the eastbound lane of th highway for hours.  The authorities have not yet announced the cause of the accident.  Although it is unconfirmed, at least one person is reporting on Twitter that the 18 wheeler may have been parked on, or on the side of I-30.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, there are more than 100,000 accidents per year in the United States involving large trucks and in Texas alone, there are more than 400 fatalities every year involving large trucks.

The deceased individual, Charleen Harney, 24, from West Tawakoni,was apparently killed on impact.

The crash occurred in the early morning hours on September 21, 2013.  Dallas police responded at about 2:25 a.m. to the crash involving two cars and a parked semi on I-30. Eastbound lanes on I-30 and the on ramp to the George Bush Turnpike remained closed for hours.

The accident was cleared in time for morning rush hour.
