Overturned semi snarls traffic on US 75

An overturned big rig on US 75 snarled traffic in McKinney, Texas recently. The accident happened when the driver of the semi truck lost control and hit a car, which caused the truck to jackknife. The car’s driver was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening. The semi driver was not injured.

The wreck occurred in the southbound lanes, closing all the lanes on that side of the highway. Delays were also experienced in northbound lanes, with traffic backed up a mile or more.

What should be done after an accident like this one? If an 18-wheeler hits you and you are in a car, pickup truck or SUV, you are lucky if you do not have serious injuries. First, check to be sure you are not injured, and call 911. Check your passengers and the truck driver for injuries, too.

As long as it is safe to remain at the scene, you should do so, until the police tell you that you can leave. Call your truck accident lawyer in Dallas to help you understand what to do and what not to do at the scene.

Do not talk about the accident with anyone, regardless of who was at fault. Of course, be honest with police, but do not admit fault, even if you think the accident may have been partially your fault. Kirkendall Dwyer LLP may advise you to exchange information with other drivers. Get their names, addresses, phone numbers and insurance information.

If the area is safe, take photographs of the vehicles involved and any injuries that can be documented. Take the good advice of your truck accident lawyer in Dallas, so that you can be properly compensated for all of your losses in the accident. Call your insurance agent, as well.
